Industry is the foundation of the Rhineland-Palatinate economy and thus a central pillar for competitiveness and employment in our state. It is an important source of impetus, a driver of innovation and also has a significant spillover effect on the service sector. At 26 percent, the manufacturing sector's share of value added in Rhineland-Palatinate is above average compared to Germany and the western German states. The state ranks fourth among the western German flat countries in terms of both the industry's share of value added and its share of the workforce.
